482 Visa Salary Requirements: Converting Hourly Rates to Annual Pay with Casual Loading and Super
For a 38-hour week, annual gross pay is hourly rate × 38 × 52. Casual loading of 25% is added on top of the base rate, and super is paid on top of ordinary earnings.
482 Visa Salary Requirements: Hourly to Annual Conversion
Whether you are a skilled migrant on a Temporary Skill Shortage (482) visa or an employer sponsoring a worker, understanding the 482 visa salary requirements is essential. Your pay must meet both immigration law and Australian workplace law. This article explains how to convert an hourly rate to an annual salary, how casual loading and superannuation work, and what the minimum pay obligations are for 482 visa holders.
Use our the timesheet to enter your base hourly rate and toggle casual loading to see your annual, fortnightly, and weekly estimates. The calculator assumes a standard 38-hour week and applies the 2026–27 tax rates and 12% super guarantee.
How Annual Pay Is Calculated
Annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by the hours you work each week, multiplied by 52 weeks. For a full-time employee working 38 hours per week:
Annual gross = hourly rate × 38 × 52
For example, the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour. That gives:
$26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,269.44 per year
If you are paid fortnightly, your gross pay is weekly pay × 2. Weekly pay is hourly rate × 38. At the minimum wage, that is $1,004.90 per week or $2,009.80 per fortnight.
This formula assumes you work the same hours every week with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances. For a more precise estimate tailored to your situation, refer to your award or enterprise agreement.
National Minimum Wage, Award Rates, and Casual Loading
Australia has a National Minimum Wage set by the Fair Work Commission. As of 1 July 2026, it is $26.44 per hour for permanent employees. However, many occupations are covered by modern awards that set higher minimum rates. Your employer must pay at least the award rate for your classification.
Casual loading is an additional 25% paid on top of the base hourly rate to compensate for the lack of paid leave (annual leave, sick leave, etc.). The casual minimum rate is therefore $26.44 × 1.25 = $33.05 per hour. Our calculator has a checkbox to add this loading automatically. Do not enter a rate that already includes casual loading; enter the base rate and check the box.
Superannuation Is Paid on Top
Under the Superannuation Guarantee, your employer must contribute 12% of your ordinary time earnings into a super fund. This is paid on top of your gross salary, not deducted from it. For example, if your annual salary is $52,269, the super contribution would be $6,272.28, bringing total employment cost to $58,541.72. The maximum contribution base is $270,830 per year; super is not required on earnings above that.
482 Visa Salary Requirements
The 482 visa salary requirements are set by the Migration Regulations and the legislative instrument IMMI 18/033. Key points:
- Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): From 1 July 2026, the TSMIT is $76,515 per year. Your guaranteed annual earnings must be at least this amount, unless an annual earnings exemption applies (e.g., if you earn $250,000 or more, different rules may apply).
- Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR): Your employer must determine the AMSR for your occupation. This is the rate that would be paid to an equivalent Australian worker in the same workplace. If an award or enterprise agreement covers the occupation, the AMSR is at least the award rate. If no award applies, the employer must use market evidence such as job advertisements or remuneration surveys.
- Equivalent pay: Under the Fair Work Act, your employer must provide you with the same terms and conditions as an Australian employee doing the same job. You cannot be paid less because you hold a visa.

Tax and Medicare
Your take-home pay depends on the 2026–27 resident tax rates:
- Nil tax on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income over $190,000
Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (with possible reductions for low-income earners). Our calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds as the 2026–27 figures were not confirmed. It does not deduct HELP loans, Medicare levy surcharge, or salary sacrifice.
Putting It All Together
To check whether a 482 visa salary offer meets the requirements, start with the hourly rate. Multiply by 38 and 52 to get the annual gross. Ensure this is at least $76,515 (TSMIT) and at least the award rate for your occupation. Add casual loading if applicable, and remember super is on top.
Use our pay guides and reference tables for award rates and tax brackets. For a quick estimate, visit the timesheet and enter your details.
Disclaimer: Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
Open the same rate on the home timesheet. Read the reference tables before treating a figure as your pay.
