Average Salary in Philippines vs Australia: How to Convert Hourly to Annual Pay

Annual gross pay is calculated as hourly rate × hours per week × 52, assuming a standard 38-hour week unless otherwise stated.

How to Convert Hourly Rate to Annual Salary

When you have an hourly rate or a salary offer, the standard way to estimate your annual gross pay is to multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. In Australia, the typical full-time week is 38 hours, as defined by the Fair Work Ombudsman. So the formula is:

Annual gross ≈ hourly rate × hours per week × 52

For example, if you earn $30 per hour and work 38 hours per week, your annual gross pay would be $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280. This calculation assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice.

Understanding the National Minimum Wage and Award Rates

The National Minimum Wage, set by the Fair Work Commission from 1 July 2026, is $26.44 per hour, which equals $1,004.90 per week for a 38-hour week. For casual employees, the minimum casual rate is $33.05 per hour, which includes a 25% casual loading. However, many workers are covered by an award or enterprise agreement that sets higher minimum rates. Award rates vary by industry and occupation and are published by the Fair Work Ombudsman. If you are covered by an award, your minimum hourly rate will be higher than the National Minimum Wage. The calculator on this site uses the rate you enter, so you should check your award or agreement for your correct base rate.

The Fortnightly View

Many Australians are paid fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross pay, simply multiply your weekly pay by two. Using the example above, weekly pay is $30 × 38 = $1,140, so fortnightly pay is $2,280. The calculator shows both weekly and fortnightly amounts to help you budget.

Average Salary Comparisons

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) publishes Average Weekly Earnings. For May 2026, full-time adult ordinary time earnings averaged $2,083.70 per week, while all employees (including part-time) averaged $1,579.20 per week. These are averages, not medians for a specific job. If you are comparing your pay to the average salary in Philippines, note that the average salary in Philippines is significantly lower than Australian minimum wage. For instance, while the average salary in Philippines varies by industry, it is often below the Australian National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour. This comparison can be useful for workers moving between countries or for employers setting pay rates.

Tax and Medicare

Once you have your annual gross pay, you can estimate your tax using the 2026–27 resident tax rates:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on income over $190,000

Plus, the Medicare levy of 2% generally applies. The calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this guide. It does not deduct HELP loans, the Medicare levy surcharge, or salary packaging. The tax shown is an estimate only.

Superannuation Paid on Top

Superannuation is a compulsory contribution paid by your employer on top of your ordinary earnings. From 1 July 2026, the super guarantee rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. The calculator estimates super based on your annual gross pay, but remember that super is not deducted from your take-home pay—it is paid in addition.

Casual Loading and the Timesheet

If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to a 25% casual loading on top of the base hourly rate. On the timesheet, you enter your base hourly rate (without casual loading) and then check the box to add the 25% loading. The calculator then shows your annual and fortnightly figures including the loading. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading.

Using the Calculator Responsibly

This site provides estimates only. For precise pay calculations, refer to your award or agreement, and consult the pay guides or reference tables provided by the Fair Work Ombudsman. You can also learn more about minimum wage, casual loading, and hourly conversion on our dedicated pages.

A Note on the Average Salary in Philippines

When discussing international comparisons, the average salary in Philippines is often cited as a benchmark. However, it is an average across all industries and regions, not a median for a specific job. The Australian Bureau of Statistics data for Australian earnings is also an average, not a median. Always check the source and context when comparing salaries across countries.

Disclaimer

Annual pay shown here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. Questions people ask next

How do I use the timesheet to convert my hourly rate to annual pay?

On the timesheet (home page), type your base hourly rate. If you are a casual employee, check the box to add 25% casual loading on top of that rate. What is the difference between the National Minimum Wage and an award rate?

The National Minimum Wage, set by the Fair Work Commission, is the minimum pay for employees not covered by an award or agreement. From 1 July 2026 it is $26.44 per hour for a 38-hour week. Award rates are higher minimums for specific industries and occupations, set by the Fair Work Ombudsman. Your award may also include penalty rates, allowances, and casual loading.

How is superannuation calculated on top of my salary?

Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings at a rate of 12% (from 1 July 2026) up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. It is not deducted from your hourly rate or annual salary shown in the calculator. The super amount shown is an estimate based on your ordinary earnings.
