Business Management Salary: How to Convert Hourly Rates to Annual Pay
For a full-time employee working 38 hours per week, the annual gross salary is the hourly rate multiplied by 38 then by 52.
Understanding the Business Management Salary Conversion
When you have an hourly rate or a salary offer, converting between the two is essential for comparing job opportunities. This guide explains how to calculate annual gross pay from an hourly rate, focusing on the standard 38-hour week used in many Australian awards. We'll cover the National Minimum Wage, award rates, casual loading, superannuation, and tax.
The Basic Formula
The standard conversion is: hourly rate × hours per week × 52. For a full-time employee, the Fair Work Ombudsman defines a full-time week as 38 hours. So annual gross = hourly × 38 × 52. For example, the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour gives $26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,245.44 per year. This matches the weekly rate of $1004.90 multiplied by 52.
If you are paid fortnightly, multiply the weekly rate by two. For the minimum wage, that is $2009.80 per fortnight before tax. For a business management salary of $30 per hour, weekly pay is $1140, fortnightly $2280, and annual $59,280.
National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates
The National Minimum Wage applies to employees not covered by an award or agreement. However, most business management roles fall under a modern award, such as the Clerks—Private Sector Award or the Managers Award. Award rates are often higher than the minimum. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award. Always check the correct classification for your role.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult ordinary time at $2083.70 per week (May 2026). For a business management salary, this equates to roughly $108,352 per year. This is significantly above the minimum wage, reflecting the higher skill level and responsibilities.
Casual Loading
If you work as a casual employee, you are entitled to a casual loading, typically 25% on top of the base hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave. The calculator on this site has a checkbox to add 25% casual loading. Do not enter a rate that already includes loading; enter the base rate and let the tool add it. For example, a base rate of $30 per hour becomes $37.50 with loading. The annual equivalent then uses the loaded rate. See our casual loading page for more details.
Superannuation
Super guarantee is 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top of your salary. It is not deducted from your gross pay. For the 2026–27 year, the maximum contribution base is $270,830. If your annual salary exceeds that, super is capped at 12% of $270,830. For most business management salaries, this cap is not reached. For a salary of $108,000, super adds about $12,960 per year.
Tax Considerations
Tax is calculated on your gross annual salary using the 2026–27 resident rates. The tax-free threshold is $18,200. Then 15% up to $45,000, 30% up to $135,000, 37% up to $190,000, and 45% above. Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income. For a salary of $52,245, tax would be approximately $5,092 plus Medicare $1,045, leaving about $46,108 after tax. For a $108,000 salary, tax is about $24,467 plus Medicare $2,160, net around $81,373.
Note that the calculator uses the 2025–26 Medicare reduction thresholds for singles, as the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed. This is an estimate. The calculator also assumes you claim the full tax-free threshold and are a resident for tax purposes.
Using the Calculator
Our timesheet tool lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add casual loading. It then calculates annual gross, fortnightly pay, super, and estimated tax. For a business management salary, you can compare different hourly rates to see the annual equivalent. Remember that this is an estimate; actual pay may vary due to overtime, penalties, allowances, or salary packaging.
For more details on minimum rates, see our minimum wage page. The calculator provides a quick reference but does not replace professional advice. Always consult the Fair Work Ombudsman or a qualified accountant for your specific situation.
Important Disclaimer
Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
Open the same rate on the home timesheet. Read the reference tables before treating a figure as your pay.
