Criminal Psychology Salary: Convert Hourly to Annual with Casual Loading and Super
For a criminal psychology salary at the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour, the annual gross pay for a 38-hour week is $52,269.44 before casual loading and super.
Understanding Your Criminal Psychology Salary: From Hourly to Annual
Whether you are evaluating a criminal psychology salary or any other role, converting an hourly rate to an annual figure is essential for comparing job offers and budgeting. This guide explains the standard formula, the impact of casual loading, and how superannuation is paid on top. All figures are based on the latest National Minimum Wage and award rates from the Fair Work Commission and the Fair Work Ombudsman.
The Basic Conversion Formula
The standard method to estimate annual gross pay is:
Hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks = annual gross salary
For full-time employees, we assume 38 ordinary hours per week, as set by the Fair Work Act. For example, the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, as confirmed by the Fair Work Commission. Multiplying by 38 hours and 52 weeks gives:
$26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,269.44 per year
This is the gross amount before tax, Medicare, and super. If you work fewer or more hours, adjust the weekly hours accordingly. Part-time and casual employees should use their actual weekly hours.
Casual Loading: 25% on Top
If you are employed as a casual, you are entitled to a 25% loading on your base hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave such as annual leave and sick leave. The casual loading is applied before any other calculations.
For the National Minimum Wage, the casual rate is $26.44 × 1.25 = $33.05 per hour. Using the same 38-hour week:
$33.05 × 38 × 52 = $65,336.80 per year
This higher annual figure reflects the loading. When using our the timesheet tool, simply enter your base hourly rate and check the casual loading box – do not enter a rate that already includes loading. Learn more about casual loading.
Superannuation Is Paid on Top
Employers must pay superannuation guarantee contributions of 12% of your ordinary earnings. This is paid on top of your gross salary, not deducted from it. For the 2026–27 financial year, the maximum contribution base is $270,830, as set by the Australian Taxation Office.
Using the minimum wage example:
- Annual gross: $52,269.44
- Super (12%): $6,272.33
- Total employer cost: $58,541.77
For casual employees on $65,336.80, super would be $7,840.42. Super is not included in your take-home pay but is a valuable long-term benefit. Visit our super and packaging page for more details.
Fortnightly Pay
Many employers pay fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross pay, multiply your weekly pay by two.
- Minimum wage weekly: $1,004.90
- Fortnightly: $2,009.80
- Casual weekly: $1,256.13
- Casual fortnightly: $2,512.26
Tax and Medicare Estimates
Your take-home pay depends on tax and the Medicare levy. For 2026–27, the resident tax rates are:
- $0 – $18,200: nil
- $18,201 – $45,000: 15%
- $45,001 – $135,000: 30%
- $135,001 – $190,000: 37%
- Over $190,000: 45%
Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income. Using the minimum wage annual gross of $52,269.44:
- Taxable income after tax-free threshold: $52,269.44 – $18,200 = $34,069.44
- Tax on first $26,800 (to $45,000) at 15%: $4,020
- Tax on remaining $7,269.44 at 30%: $2,180.83
- Total tax: $6,200.83
- Medicare (2%): $1,045.39
- Total deductions: $7,246.22
- Estimated take-home: $45,023.22
Note: This is an estimate. Your actual tax may vary due to HELP loans, Medicare levy surcharge, or salary packaging. Use our take-home pay page for a more detailed calculator.
Award Rates vs. National Minimum Wage
Many criminal psychology roles may be covered by an award, such as the Health Professionals Award or the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award. Award rates are generally higher than the National Minimum Wage. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award, updated from 1 July 2026 with a 4.75% increase, as noted in their pay guides page.
Always check your specific award or enterprise agreement. If you are award/agreement free, the National Minimum Wage applies.
Applying the Formula to a Criminal Psychology Salary
Whether you are negotiating a criminal psychology salary or any other position, the conversion process is the same. Start with your hourly rate, multiply by weekly hours and 52, add casual loading if applicable, and remember that super is paid on top. Use the official sources – Fair Work Commission, Fair Work Ombudsman, Australian Taxation Office – to verify rates.
For example, if a criminal psychology role offers $35.00 per hour under an award, the annual gross for a 38-hour week is $35.00 × 38 × 52 = $69,160.00. If casual, add 25%: $43.75 per hour, annual $86,450.00. Super at 12% would be $8,299.20 and $10,374.00 respectively.
Using the Timesheet Tool
Our the timesheet tool makes it easy to convert your hourly rate. Enter your base hourly rate, select casual loading if applicable, and the tool calculates annual gross, fortnightly pay, estimated tax, Medicare, and super. It uses the same assumptions described here.
Important Disclaimer
Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
