Firefighter Salary QLD: Converting Hourly Pay to Annual with Casual Loading and Super
For a 38-hour week, annual gross pay is hourly rate × 38 × 52; casual loading adds 25% on top, and super is paid on top of ordinary earnings.
Converting Hourly Pay to Annual: The Basics
When you have an hourly rate—whether from a job offer, an award, or a casual position—the quick way to estimate your annual gross pay is to multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then by 52 weeks. For most full-time roles, the standard week is 38 hours. So the formula is:
Annual gross ≈ hourly rate × 38 × 52
This gives you a rough annual figure before tax and super. It assumes you work the same hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances. If you work fewer or more hours, adjust the weekly figure accordingly.
For a fortnightly view, simply double the weekly amount: fortnightly gross = hourly rate × 38 × 2.
National Minimum Wage and Award Rates
From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Many jobs, including firefighter roles in Queensland, are covered by awards or enterprise agreements that set higher minimum rates. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award. While we do not have a specific median for a firefighter salary QLD, the average full-time adult ordinary weekly earnings in Queensland (May 2026) is $2,039.70 per week, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. That is an average for all industries, not a median for this job.
Casual Loading: 25% on Top
If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to a 25% casual loading on top of the base hourly rate. This loading compensates for the lack of paid leave (annual leave, sick leave). The casual rate is calculated as: casual rate = base rate × 1.25. For example, if the base rate for a firefighter salary QLD is $35.00 per hour, the casual rate is $43.75 per hour. The annual equivalent then uses the casual rate in the formula.
Important: When using our timesheet, you enter the base hourly rate and check the casual loading box to add 25% on top. Do not enter a rate that already includes casual loading.**
Super Paid on Top
Superannuation guarantee is 12% of ordinary earnings, paid by the employer on top of the gross pay. For 2026–27, the rate is 12% of ordinary earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. Super is not deducted from your pay; it is additional. So if your annual gross is $80,000, the employer contributes $9,600 in super (up to the cap).
For a firefighter salary QLD, the super is calculated on the ordinary earnings, which includes any casual loading. That means the total cost to the employer is higher than the annual gross shown.
Tax and Take-Home Pay
Resident tax for 2026–27: nil to $18,200; 15% to $45,000; 30% to $135,000; 37% to $190,000; 45% above that. Medicare levy generally 2%. The calculation uses the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds not confirmed here. HELP, surcharge, salary packaging not deducted.
Disclaimer: Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
