Use Our In Hand Salary Calculator Australia: Hourly to Annual, Fortnightly, and Tax
Based on a 38-hour week, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 38 hours per week times 52 weeks.
How the In Hand Salary Calculator Australia Works
Our in hand salary calculator australia helps you turn an hourly rate into annual, fortnightly, and take-home figures. It uses the standard formula: hourly rate × hours per week × 52. We assume a 38-hour week, which is the full-time ordinary hours under the National Employment Standards. You can adjust the hours if your role is part-time or casual.
Annual, Fortnightly, and Weekly Pay
Once you enter your hourly rate, the calculator shows:
- Annual gross pay – your total earnings before tax and super.
- Fortnightly gross pay – annual pay divided by 26 (or weekly × 2). This is useful for budgeting if you’re paid fortnightly.
- Weekly gross pay – annual pay divided by 52.
For example, at the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour (from 1 July 2026), the weekly pay for 38 hours is $1,004.90. Fortnightly that’s $2,009.80, and annual gross is $52,269.44.
National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is the legal floor set by the Fair Work Commission. From 1 July 2026, it is $26.44 per hour. However, most employees are covered by an award or enterprise agreement that pays more. Awards set minimum rates for specific industries and roles, often higher than the NMW. For example, a hospitality award might pay $27–$30 per hour for a Level 1 employee. The calculator does not know your award, so it uses the rate you enter. If you’re on an award, check your classification against the pay guides to see your correct minimum.
Casual Loading
If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to a 25% loading on top of the base rate. The calculator has a checkbox to add this loading. Do not enter a rate that already includes the loading – enter the base hourly rate, then tick the box. The calculator will add 25% automatically. For the NMW, the casual rate becomes $33.05 per hour ($26.44 × 1.25).
Superannuation Paid on Top
Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your gross pay. It is not deducted from your pay. The calculator estimates super up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. For the NMW example, super would be $6,272.33 per year (12% of $52,269.44). This is shown separately as an employer contribution.
Tax and Take-Home Pay
The calculator estimates your take-home pay using the 2026–27 resident tax rates and the Medicare levy (2%). The tax-free threshold of $18,200 means you pay no tax on the first $18,200 earned. Then:
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income over $190,000
Medicare levy is applied at 2% of your taxable income, with reductions for low-income earners (using the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds, as the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed). The calculator does not deduct HELP loans, the Medicare levy surcharge, or salary sacrifice arrangements.
Using the Calculator for Comparisons
You can compare your current hourly rate with the NMW or with average earnings. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Average Weekly Earnings for May 2026, full-time adult ordinary time earnings were $2,083.70 per week. That’s about $54.31 per hour for a 38-hour week. All employees (including part-time) averaged $1,579.20 per week. These are averages, not medians for a specific job. The calculator helps you see where your rate sits relative to these benchmarks.
Important Notes
- The calculator assumes you work the same hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances.
- Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base.
- Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here.
- HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted.
- This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
