Understanding Your IT Manager Salary: Hourly to Annual Conversion
For an IT manager earning $60 per hour, the annual salary based on a 38-hour week is approximately $118,560 before tax and super.
Converting an IT Manager Salary from Hourly to Annual
When you see an hourly rate for an IT manager role, it can be helpful to convert it to an annual salary to compare offers or budget your income. The standard formula used in Australia is:
Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks
For full-time work, we assume a 38-hour week, which is the ordinary hours under the National Employment Standards (NES) and most modern awards. This assumption is built into the timesheet calculator. If your role is part-time or you work different hours, adjust the weekly hours accordingly.
Example: IT Manager on $70 per hour
- Weekly pay: $70 × 38 = $2,660
- Fortnightly pay: $2,660 × 2 = $5,320
- Annual gross: $2,660 × 52 = $138,320
This is before tax, Medicare levy, and superannuation. The calculator on the timesheet also estimates these deductions.
Award Coverage and Minimum Rates for IT Managers
Not all IT managers are covered by a modern award. According to the Fair Work Ombudsman, qualified IT employees who do not work for an employer in the IT or telecommunications services industry are often award-free. This means they are entitled only to the National Minimum Wage ($26.44 per hour from 1 July 2026) and the NES. However, most IT managers earn well above this minimum.
If you are covered by an award (for example, the Professional Employees Award if you work in IT services), the award sets minimum pay rates, allowances, and penalty rates. You can check your award using the pay guides on the Fair Work Ombudsman website.
Casual Loading for IT Managers
If you work as a casual IT manager, you are entitled to a 25% casual loading on top of the base hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave. On the timesheet you enter your base hourly rate (the rate before loading) and tick the 'casual loading' checkbox. The calculator then adds 25% to show your casual rate. Do not enter a rate that already includes casual loading.
Tax and Superannuation on Your IT Manager Salary
Income Tax (2026–27 Resident Rates)
- $0 – $18,200: Nil
- $18,201 – $45,000: 15c for each $1 over $18,200
- $45,001 – $135,000: $4,020 plus 30c for each $1 over $45,000
- $135,001 – $190,000: $31,020 plus 37c for each $1 over $135,000
- $190,001 and over: $51,370 plus 45c for each $1 over $190,000
Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income. The take-home pay page explains how these apply.
Superannuation Guarantee
Your employer must pay superannuation of 12% of your ordinary earnings on top of your salary, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year (2026–27). For example, on a $138,320 annual salary, the super contribution would be $16,598.40, paid in addition to your salary. This is not deducted from your pay. See super and packaging for more.
Comparing IT Manager Salaries with Industry Benchmarks
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult ordinary time earnings was $2,083.70 per week in May 2026. That equates to about $108,352 annually. Many IT manager salaries are above this average, especially in senior roles or in industries like finance and technology.
When you use the timesheet to convert your hourly rate, you can compare your estimated annual pay with these benchmarks. Remember that the calculator assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, and no salary sacrifice. Actual pay may differ.
Fortnightly Pay and Budgeting
Many Australian employers pay fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross pay, simply multiply your weekly pay by two. For the $70/hour IT manager example:
- Weekly: $2,660
- Fortnightly: $5,320
This can help you plan your budget and compare with job advertisements that quote fortnightly or annual figures.
Important Notes on the Calculator
The annual pay shown on the timesheet is an estimate based on the formula hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It does not account for unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
