Ivan Cleary Salary: How to Convert Hourly Rates to Annual Pay in Australia

Using the standard 38-hour week, the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour equates to $52,254.80 per year before tax and super.

Understanding Your Pay: From Hourly to Annual

Whether you're curious about Ivan Cleary's salary or your own, converting an hourly rate to an annual figure is straightforward. The standard formula used across Australia is:

Hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks = annual gross salary

For full-time employees, the typical week is 38 hours, as defined by the Fair Work Ombudsman. This is the basis for the National Minimum Wage and most award rates. For example, the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, which gives $1004.90 per week and $52,254.80 per year.

The Fortnightly View

Many employers pay fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross, simply double your weekly pay. Using the minimum wage: $1004.90 × 2 = $2009.80 per fortnight. This can help with budgeting and comparing job offers.

Award Rates vs National Minimum Wage

Most employees are covered by a modern award that sets minimum pay rates higher than the National Minimum Wage. The Fair Work Commission publishes detailed pay guides for each award, including classifications, allowances, and penalty rates. For example, the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) has specific rates for home care employees, with an initial increase of up to 15% from 1 December 2026. Always check your award to ensure you're paid correctly.

Casual Loading

If you're a casual employee, you're entitled to a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate. This is not a separate rate – it's an addition. The calculator has a checkbox to add casual loading – never type a rate that already includes loading. For the National Minimum Wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour ($26.44 + 25%). See casual loading for more.

Tax and Medicare Levy

Once you have your annual gross, you can estimate tax using the 2026–27 resident tax scale:

  • Nil tax on the first $18,200
  • 15% on the next $26,800 (to $45,000)
  • 30% on the next $90,000 (to $135,000)
  • 37% on the next $55,000 (to $190,000)
  • 45% above $190,000

Medicare levy generally 2% of taxable income. The reduction thresholds for singles are $24,276 (2025–26) – used here because 2026–27 thresholds not confirmed. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Superannuation on Top

Super guarantee is 12% of ordinary earnings, paid by employer on top of your salary. For 2026–27, the maximum contribution base is $270,830. If your annual salary is $80,000, super contribution would be $9,600. This is not deducted from your pay but added separately. Learn more at super and packaging.

Using the Calculator

Our the timesheet lets you type your base hourly rate and see annual, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly figures. Check the box for casual loading if applicable. The results show gross pay, estimated tax (using the 2026–27 scale with Medicare), and super on top. Remember: this assumes same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. It's a quick estimate.

Example: A Hypothetical Ivan Cleary Salary

If Ivan Cleary, the Penrith Panthers coach, earned an hourly rate of, say, $200 per hour (just for illustration), his annual salary would be $200 × 38 × 52 = $395,200. After tax (using the top tax bracket), his take-home would be roughly $395,200 – $190,000 = $205,200 taxable at 45% = $92,340 tax + 2% Medicare = $4,104 Medicare = $96,444 total deductions = $298,756 net. Super would be $395,200 × 12% = $47,424 (under the $270,830 cap). This is purely hypothetical – actual Ivan Cleary salary figures are not published by Fair Work or ATO.

Important Notes

  • Minimum wage: $26.44/hour, $1004.9/week, casual $33.05/hour.
  • Award rates: Check your award pay guide for correct classification.

Disclaimer

Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

How do I calculate my annual salary from an hourly rate?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work per week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For a standard full-time role, we assume 38 hours per week. For example, $30 per hour × 38 hours × 52 weeks = $59,280 per year. This is a gross figure before tax and super. Use [the timesheet](/) to do the calculation instantly.

What is casual loading and how does it affect my pay?

Casual loading is an extra 25% on top of the base hourly rate, compensating for lack of paid leave. It is set by the Fair Work Commission and applies to employees classified as casual under an award. For the National Minimum Wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour. Our calculator has a checkbox to add casual loading – never type a rate that already includes it. See [casual loading](/topics/casual-loading) for more.

How is superannuation calculated on my salary?

Superannuation Guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. For the 2026–27 year, the maximum contribution base is $270,830. If your annual salary is $80,000, your super contribution would be $9,600. This is not deducted from your pay but added separately. Learn more at [super and packaging](/topics/super-and-packaging).
