From Hourly to Annual: How to Convert Your Pay, Even a Lando Norris Salary
Annual gross pay is hourly rate × hours per week × 52, assuming 38 hours per week for full-time work.
Converting Hourly Rates to Annual Salary
Whether you're on the National Minimum Wage or earning a Lando Norris salary, the basic conversion is the same: multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by 52. This gives your gross annual pay before tax and super.
The Standard Full‑Time Week
Most full‑time employees work 38 hours per week, as set by the Fair Work Commission. The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, which equals $1,004.90 per week (38 hours) and $52,254.88 per year. This is the base rate for adult employees not covered by an award or agreement, as confirmed by the Fair Work Commission.
If you are paid under an award, your minimum rate may be higher. Award wages increased by 4.75% from 1 July 2026, according to the Fair Work Ombudsman. Always check your specific award or agreement.
The Formula
Annual gross = hourly rate × hours per week × 52.
For a part‑time employee working 20 hours per week at $30 per hour: $30 × 20 × 52 = $31,200 per year. For a high earner such as Lando Norris, whose reported salary runs into the millions, the same formula applies—just with a much larger hourly rate. A Lando Norris salary would place him in the top tax bracket, but the conversion method remains identical.
Fortnightly Pay
Many employers pay fortnightly. To find your gross fortnightly pay, multiply your weekly pay by 2. Using the National Minimum Wage: $1,004.90 × 2 = $2,009.80 per fortnight. This can help you budget and compare with salary offers quoted per fortnight.
Casual Loading
Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of the minimum hourly rate. For the National Minimum Wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour ($26.44 × 1.25). When using the timesheet, check the casual loading box to automatically add 25% to your base rate. Do not enter a rate that already includes the loading—the tool adds it for you.
Superannuation
Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. It is not deducted from your pay. The maximum contribution base is $270,830 per year, so super stops accruing once your earnings exceed that amount. For a Lando Norris salary, super would cap at $270,830 × 12% = $32,499.60 per year.
Tax and Medicare Levy
Resident tax for 2026–27 uses these brackets:
- $0 – $18,200: nil
- $18,201 – $45,000: 15%
- $45,001 – $135,000: 30%
- $135,001 – $190,000: 37%
- $190,001+: 45%
The Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income. For a single person earning a Lando Norris salary, the levy would be a significant amount, but it is calculated on your taxable income after deductions.
Example: National Minimum Wage
- Hourly: $26.44
- Weekly (38 hours): $1,004.90
- Annual gross: $52,254.88
- Super (12%): $6,270.59 on top
- Tax (2026–27): approximately $6,838 (using the scale)
- Medicare (2%): $1,045.10
- Net annual: $44,371.78 (approx.)
Example: Lando Norris Salary (Hypothetical)
If Lando Norris earned $50 million per year, his hourly rate (assuming 38 hours per week, 52 weeks) would be $50,000,000 ÷ (38 × 52) ≈ $25,316 per hour. That is an extreme example, but the conversion works the same way. His tax would be at the top marginal rate of 45% plus Medicare, and super would be capped.
Using the Timesheet
Our timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add casual loading. It calculates weekly, fortnightly, and annual figures, plus estimated tax and super. For award‑specific rates, refer to the pay guides from the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Important Notes
This conversion assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax‑free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
