Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay: Including the NSW Police Salary
For a 38-hour week, annual gross pay is hourly rate × 38 × 52; the NSW police salary average is $2108.80 per week (full-time ordinary time, May 2026).
Converting Hourly Pay to Annual Salary
If you earn an hourly wage or have been offered a salary, understanding the annual equivalent helps you compare jobs and plan your budget. The standard method is straightforward: multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks in a year.
The 38-Hour Week Assumption
Most full-time roles in Australia are based on a 38-hour week, as defined by the Fair Work Ombudsman and the Fair Work Commission. When you see a salary figure on our reference tables or in pay guides, we assume 38 hours unless stated otherwise. For example, the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, which equals $1004.44 per week (38 hours) and $1004.44 × 52 = $52,231.88 per year. If you work more or fewer hours, adjust the weekly figure changes accordingly.
Including the Fortnightly Pay
A fortnight is simply two weeks multiplied by two: weekly pay × 2. For a $30 per hour on a 38-hour week, your fortnightly gross pay is $30 × 38 × 2 = $2,280. This helps when you receive salary packaging or compare with salary packaging and super.
Award Rates and Casual Loading
Award rates set minimum pay for specific industries. The National Minimum Wage is the legal floor. Many employees receive higher award rates based on their classification. Casual workers get a 25% casual loading on top of the base rate, as set by the Fair Work Ombudsman. For example, the casual minimum wage $26.44 per hour plus 25% loading = $33.05 per hour. Always check your award or enterprise agreement. Do not tell the reader to type a rate that already includes casual loading. Our timesheet home page has a checkbox to add 25% casual loading on top of the base hourly rate. Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings at 12% of ordinary earnings, up to the $270,830 maximum contribution base.
Tax and Medicare on Your Annual Pay
Annual gross pay is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. For a $30 per hour on a 38-hour week, annual gross = $30 × 38 × 52 = $52,200. Then apply 2026–27 resident tax scale: nil to $18,200; 15% to $45,000; 30% to $135,000; 37% to $190,000; 45% above that. Medicare levy generally 2% of taxable income. The Australian Taxation Office uses the full tax-free threshold. The 2025–26 single reduction thresholds are used for Medicare because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. No HELP, Medicare levy surcharge and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate.
