Perfusionist Salary Australia: How to Calculate Your Annual Pay from an Hourly Rate

A perfusionist salary Australia annual pay is typically calculated as hourly rate × 38 hours per week × 52 weeks, with super paid on top.

Understanding Perfusionist Salary Australia

If you are a perfusionist or considering the profession, knowing how your hourly rate translates into annual pay is essential. A perfusionist salary Australia depends on the award or agreement that covers your role, your employment type (full-time, part-time, or casual), and any applicable loadings or allowances. This article explains the standard calculation, the role of awards, casual loading, superannuation paid on top, and how to use our tools to estimate your take-home pay.

How to Calculate Annual Pay from an Hourly Rate

The basic formula for annual gross pay is:

Annual gross ≈ hourly rate × hours per week × 52

For a full-time employee, the standard week is 38 hours. So if your base hourly rate is $50, your annual gross would be:

$50 × 38 × 52 = $98,800

This assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, and no allowances. It is a starting point for budgeting. If you work part-time, use your actual weekly hours. For casuals, remember that the 25% casual loading is added on top of the base rate – our calculator lets you check a box to include that loading automatically.

The Role of Awards and the National Minimum Wage

Perfusionists in Australia are typically covered by the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020. The Fair Work Commission maintains the Modern Awards Pay Database which contains the calculated minimum rates of pay, allowances, and penalty rates for each award. The Fair Work Ombudsman publishes pay guides that summarise the minimum rates for each classification.

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour for employees 21 and over, or $33.05 per hour for casuals (including 25% loading). However, award rates for qualified health professionals like perfusionists are higher. Always check the specific classification in the Health Professionals Award or your enterprise agreement. If your employer pays above the award, your hourly rate may be higher.

Casual Loading and Superannuation Paid on Top

Two important concepts affect your total remuneration:

  • Casual loading: If you work as a casual perfusionist, you receive a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid annual leave, sick leave, or public holidays. When using our calculator, you check a box to add the 25% loading – never type a rate that already includes the loading.

  • Superannuation: The super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid on top of your salary. It is not deducted from your hourly rate. For example, if your annual gross is $98,800, your employer must contribute an additional $11,856 to your super fund (up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830). This means your total remuneration is higher than your cash salary.

Tax and Medicare

Once you have your annual gross, you can estimate tax using the 2026–27 resident tax rates:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on income above $190,000

Plus the Medicare levy of 2% (no reduction for singles above a certain threshold). Our estimate uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds as the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed. This is an estimate only – for exact figures, consult the Australian Taxation Office.

Using Our Tools

Our timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add casual loading. It then calculates annual gross, fortnightly pay, superannuation, and estimated tax. We also have pay guides and reference tables for award rates. For more on specific topics, see our pages on minimum wage, take-home pay, super and packaging, average pay, hourly conversion, casual loading, and job pay.

Remember: the calculation assumes a constant rate, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. HELP, Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

For a perfusionist salary Australia, use the award rate or your agreed hourly rate, apply the correct loading, and add super on top. Then use our calculator to see your estimated annual, fortnightly, and after-tax figures.

Open the same rate on the home timesheet. Read the reference tables before treating a figure as your pay.
