Product Manager Salary Sydney: Converting Hourly Rates to Annual Pay
For a product manager in Sydney earning $60 per hour, the annual gross pay is about $118,560 based on a 38-hour week.
Converting a Product Manager Salary Sydney Hourly Rate to Annual Pay
If you’re a product manager in Sydney negotiating a contract or comparing job offers, you’ll often see an hourly rate. To understand your full-year earnings, you need to convert that rate to an annual figure. This guide walks you through the formula, the assumptions we use, and how tax and super fit in.
The Basic Formula: Hourly × Hours × 52
The standard calculation is:
Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks
We assume a full-time week of 38 ordinary hours, which is the standard used by the Fair Work Commission for the National Minimum Wage. For a product manager earning $60 per hour, that works out to:
$60 × 38 × 52 = $118,560 per year
If you work part-time or your contract specifies different hours, adjust the weekly figure accordingly. The same formula applies whether you’re salaried or paid by the hour.
From Annual to Fortnightly
Many Australian employers pay fortnightly. To get your gross fortnightly pay, divide the annual figure by 26 (or multiply your weekly pay by 2). Using the $118,560 example:
$118,560 ÷ 26 = $4,560 per fortnight (gross)
This is before tax, Medicare, and any salary sacrifice arrangements.
National Minimum Wage vs. Award Rates vs. Market Rates
The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour (or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). Casual employees get a 25% loading, making it $33.05 per hour. This is the legal floor – no one can be paid less.
Most product managers in Sydney are covered by an award (such as the Professional Employees Award) or an enterprise agreement. Award minimum rates are higher than the National Minimum Wage and increased by 4.75% from 1 July 2026. You can check the exact rate for your classification using the pay guides on the Fair Work Ombudsman site.
Market rates for product managers in Sydney are typically well above award minima. The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult ordinary time (May 2026) is $2,083.70 per week, or about $108,352 per year. A product manager salary in Sydney often exceeds this average, especially for senior roles.
Tax and Medicare on Your Annual Figure
Once you have your annual gross, you can estimate your take-home pay using the 2026–27 resident tax rates:
- Nil tax on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Plus, the Medicare levy generally adds 2% of your taxable income (with reductions available for low-income earners). For a $118,560 salary, the tax would be approximately:
- $0 on first $18,200
- 15% on $26,800 ($18,201–$45,000) = $4,020
- 30% on $73,560 ($45,001–$118,560) = $22,068
- Total tax = $26,088
- Medicare levy (2%) = $2,371.20
- Total deductions = $28,459.20
- Estimated take-home = $90,100.80 per year
This is an estimate. The Australian Taxation Office’s tax tables will give you precise withholding amounts. Use our take-home pay tool for a more detailed breakdown.
Superannuation Is Paid on Top
Employers must pay super guarantee at 12% of your ordinary earnings, on top of your salary. For a $118,560 annual salary, that’s an extra $14,227.20 per year, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. Super is not part of your take-home pay – it goes into your nominated super fund.
If you’re a contractor or casual, you may need to arrange your own super. Casual employees receive the 25% loading instead of paid leave, but super still applies on the base rate.
Using Our Timesheet Calculator
Our timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add the 25% casual loading. It then shows your annual, fortnightly, and weekly gross pay, plus estimated tax and super. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading – tick the checkbox instead.
Important Disclaimer
Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
