Hourly to Annual Pay: Salary Packaging QLD and Your Take-Home Estimate
This estimate multiplies your hourly rate by 38 hours per week and 52 weeks, giving an annual gross figure before tax and super.
How to Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay
If you earn an hourly wage or have been offered a salary, understanding your annual equivalent helps you compare jobs and plan your finances. The standard formula is simple: multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For full-time employees, we assume a 38-hour week, as this is the ordinary hours under the Fair Work Act. For example, at the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour, the annual gross pay is $26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,245.44.
Using the Timesheet Calculator
Our timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate. If you are a casual employee, check the box to add 25% casual loading on top of your base rate. Do not enter a rate that already includes casual loading – the calculator applies it automatically. For a casual on the minimum wage, the loaded rate is $33.05 per hour, giving an annual gross of $65,306.80.
Fortnightly and Weekly Figures
Your pay cycle may be weekly or fortnightly. To find your weekly pay, divide the annual gross by 52. For a fortnight, multiply the weekly figure by 2. Using the minimum wage example: weekly = $1,004.90, fortnightly = $2,009.80. This helps when budgeting or comparing with award rates.
Distinguishing Minimum Wage, Award Rates, and Casual Loading
The National Minimum Wage is set by the Fair Work Commission and applies to employees not covered by an award or agreement. From 1 July 2026, it is $26.44 per hour ($1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). Many workers are covered by industry or occupation awards that specify higher minimum rates. Always check your award via the Fair Work Ombudsman. Casual employees receive a 25% loading in lieu of paid leave entitlements, bringing the casual minimum to $33.05 per hour.
Superannuation Paid on Top
Your employer must pay super guarantee contributions of 12% of your ordinary earnings on top of your gross pay. This is not deducted from your hourly rate. For the minimum wage example, the super contribution would be $6,269.45 per year (12% of $52,245.44), up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. Super is not included in the annual gross figure shown by the calculator.
Tax and Medicare Levy
The annual gross amount is before tax. For 2026–27, the resident tax rates are:
- Nil on the first $18,200
- 15% on income between $18,201 and $45,000
- 30% on income between $45,001 and $135,000
- 37% on income between $135,001 and $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Most residents also pay the Medicare levy of 2% of taxable income. The calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this guide. For a single person earning the minimum wage annual gross of $52,245.44, the estimated tax would be approximately $5,167 (15% of $34,045.44) plus Medicare of $1,044.91, giving a total of $6,211.91, leaving a take-home of about $46,033.53. However, this does not include the tax-free threshold adjustments or any offsets.
Salary Packaging QLD Considerations
If you live in Queensland and are considering salary packaging QLD arrangements – such as through a public sector employer or a not-for-profit organisation – remember that packaging can reduce your taxable income. Common items include a car, laptop, or additional super contributions. Our estimate does not account for salary packaging, so your actual take-home pay may differ. For more details, see our super and packaging page.
Average Earnings Context
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, full-time adult ordinary time earnings in May 2026 averaged $2,083.70 per week nationally, and $2,039.70 per week in Queensland. All employees (including part-time) averaged $1,579.20 per week. These are averages, not medians for any specific job. If you are comparing your pay, note that your role may have a different median.
Important Disclaimer
The annual pay shown here is an estimate: hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
