Service Advisor Salary: Hourly to Annual Pay Guide (38-Hour Week)
For a full-time service advisor working 38 hours per week, the national minimum wage of $26.44 per hour gives an annual gross salary of $52,254.80 before tax and super.
Converting Your Service Advisor Salary
To convert an hourly rate to an annual salary, use the formula: hourly rate × hours per week × 52. For a full-time employee, the standard week is 38 ordinary hours under the Fair Work Act. So if you earn $30 per hour as a service advisor, your annual gross pay is $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280. This assumes you work every week of the year with no unpaid leave.
If you are paid a salary instead of an hourly rate, you can reverse the calculation: divide your annual salary by 1,976 (38 × 52) to find the equivalent hourly rate. For example, a $65,000 annual service advisor salary works out to about $32.89 per hour.
The fortnightly pay is simply your weekly pay multiplied by two. Using the same $30/hour example, weekly pay is $1,140 ($30 × 38), so fortnightly is $2,280 before tax.
It's important to use your base hourly rate, not a rate that already includes casual loading or super. If your employer quotes a rate "including super", divide by 1.12 to find the base rate. For instance, a $40/hour package including super has a base rate of about $35.71. The super and packaging article explains this in detail.
Understanding the 38-Hour Week and Fortnight
The Fair Work Commission's national minimum wage order sets the standard for a 38-hour week. From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week. This is the legal minimum for employees not covered by an award or agreement. However, most service advisors are covered by the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award 2020. This award has multiple classification levels, from Service Advisor Level 1 to Level 4, each with its own minimum hourly rate. The Fair Work Ombudsman's pay guides provide the exact rates for each classification.
Award wages increased by 4.75% from 1 July 2026. So if you were earning a certain rate before that date, it should have increased accordingly. Always check the current pay guide for your award to ensure you are being paid correctly.
If you are a casual service advisor, you receive a 25% loading on top of the base award rate. For example, if the base rate for a Level 2 service advisor is $28.50 per hour, the casual rate is $35.63 per hour. This loading is added to your hourly rate before calculating annual pay. The casual loading page explains how to calculate it.
Tax and Super on Your Service Advisor Salary
Once you have your annual gross salary, you can estimate tax using the 2026–27 resident tax rates. For a service advisor earning $70,000 per year (about $35.43/hour full-time), the tax calculation would be: $0 on first $18,200, then 15% on $26,800 ($4,020), then 30% on $25,000 ($7,500), total tax $11,520, plus Medicare levy 2% of $70,000 = $1,400, total tax $12,920. Take-home pay approximately $57,080 per year, or $1,097.69 per week.
The take-home pay page can help you calculate your net income more precisely, including the Medicare levy reduction thresholds if applicable.
Superannuation guarantee is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. This means if your annual gross is $70,000, your employer contributes an additional $8,400 to your super fund, up to the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Your total remuneration package is $78,400. The super guarantee rate has been 12% since 1 July 2025.
Award Rates and Casual Loading
To find the correct award rate for your service advisor role, visit the Fair Work Ombudsman website and use the Pay and Conditions Tool. You can select your industry and classification to see the minimum hourly rate, allowances, and penalty rates. The job pay page on this site provides links to common award classifications.
If you are award-free (uncommon for service advisors), the national minimum wage applies. But most dealerships and repair shops are covered by the Vehicle Repair award. The award also includes provisions for overtime, weekend penalties, and annual leave loading (17.5% on annual leave pay).
When converting your hourly rate to annual, remember that penalty rates and overtime are not guaranteed every week. Use your base ordinary rate for the annual estimate, then add any consistent additional earnings separately.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports average weekly earnings for full-time adult employees at $2,083.70 per week (May 2026), which equates to an annual salary of about $108,352.40. This is a broad average across all occupations. A service advisor salary may be lower or higher depending on experience, location, and employer. For example, a service advisor in a metropolitan dealership might earn $35–$45 per hour, while a junior in a regional workshop might earn closer to the award minimum.
