Business Analyst Salary: Hourly to Annual Conversion for a 38-Hour Week

A typical full-time business analyst salary based on ABS Average Weekly Earnings of $2,083.70 per week equates to about $54.83 per hour for a 38-hour week, or $108,360 annually before tax and super.

Understanding the Business Analyst Salary in Australia

If you are a business analyst or considering a role in this field, you will often see salaries quoted as an hourly rate, a weekly wage, or an annual package. Converting between these figures is straightforward once you know the standard assumptions. This guide explains how to calculate your business analyst salary from an hourly rate using a 38-hour week, a fortnight, and a 52-week year. We also cover tax, superannuation, and the difference between award rates and market rates.

The 38-Hour Week and the Annual Conversion

Most full-time roles in Australia are based on a 38-hour ordinary working week. To convert an hourly rate to an annual salary, use this formula:

Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52

For a 38-hour week, the formula becomes:

Annual gross pay = hourly rate × 38 × 52

For example, if your business analyst hourly rate is $55.00:

$55.00 × 38 × 52 = $108,680 per year

This is your gross income before tax, Medicare levy, and superannuation. The calculation assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, and no allowances.

From Hourly to Fortnightly Pay

Many employers pay fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross pay, multiply your weekly pay by two:

Fortnightly pay = hourly rate × 38 × 2

Using the same $55.00 rate:

$55.00 × 38 × 2 = $4,180 per fortnight

Knowing your fortnightly amount helps with budgeting and comparing job offers.

National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates vs Market Rates

Australia has a National Minimum Wage set by the Fair Work Commission. From 1 July 2026, it is $26.44 per hour ($1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). Casual employees receive an additional 25% loading, making the casual minimum $33.05 per hour.

However, a business analyst salary is rarely at the minimum wage. Many business analysts are covered by an award such as the Professional Employees Award or the Clerks – Private Sector Award, which set higher minimum rates. Others are on enterprise agreements or individual contracts.

A useful market benchmark is the ABS Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult employees. For May 2026, this was $2,083.70 per week. Dividing by 38 hours gives an implied hourly rate of approximately $54.83. This figure is often used as a reference for a typical experienced business analyst salary, though actual rates vary by industry, location, and experience.

Casual Loading and Superannuation

If you work as a casual business analyst, your employer must pay casual loading of 25% on top of your base hourly rate. For example, a base rate of $50.00 becomes $62.50 per hour with loading. Our the timesheet tool includes a checkbox to add casual loading – never enter a rate that already includes it.

Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings. From 1 July 2026, the super guarantee rate is 12%, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. So if your annual gross is $108,680, your employer contributes an extra $13,041.60 to your super fund. This is not deducted from your pay; it is an additional benefit.

Tax on Your Business Analyst Salary

Income tax in Australia uses a progressive scale. For the 2026–27 financial year, the resident tax rates are:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on the portion from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on the portion from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on the portion from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on amounts over $190,000

Plus the Medicare levy of 2% (based on 2025–26 single reduction thresholds, as the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this guide).

Using the $108,680 example:

  • Tax on first $18,200: $0
  • Tax on $18,201–$45,000: $4,020 (15% of $26,800)
  • Tax on $45,001–$108,680: $19,104 (30% of $63,680)
  • Total tax: $23,124
  • Medicare levy (2% of $108,680): $2,173.60
  • Total deductions: $25,297.60
  • Net annual pay: $83,382.40

This is an estimate. Your actual tax may differ if you have deductions, HELP debt, or the Medicare levy surcharge.

Questions people ask next

How do I calculate my annual business analyst salary from an hourly rate?

Multiply your hourly rate by 38 (standard full-time hours per week) and then by 52 (weeks per year). For example, $55 per hour × 38 × 52 = $108,680 gross annual salary. This assumes you work the same hours every week with no unpaid overtime or penalty rates.

What is the difference between the National Minimum Wage and a typical business analyst salary?

The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour (or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). A business analyst salary is usually much higher, often based on market rates or an award. The ABS reports full-time adult average weekly earnings of $2,083.70, which implies an hourly rate around $54.83 – a common benchmark for experienced business analysts.

Does the business analyst salary include superannuation and casual loading?

No. Superannuation (12% from 1 July 2026) is paid on top of your ordinary earnings, up to the maximum contribution base. Casual loading (25%) is added to the base hourly rate if you are a casual employee. Our [the timesheet](/) tool lets you add casual loading separately – never enter a rate that already includes it.
