From Hourly to Annual: How Casual Loading and Super Affect Your Pay (Plus the Mbappe Salary Comparison)
For a 38-hour week, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $33.05 with casual loading, giving an annual gross of $52,254.80 (excluding super).
Understanding Your Hourly to Annual Conversion
Whether you're a full-time employee, a casual worker, or just curious about how a star footballer's earnings compare, converting an hourly rate to an annual salary is a straightforward calculation. Even when people search for "mbappe salary", they often see huge annual figures, but the same formula applies: multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by 52 weeks.
The Basic Formula
Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52.
We assume a standard 38-hour week unless you specify otherwise. This is the ordinary hours for full-time employees under the National Minimum Wage Order. For part-time or casual workers, use your actual weekly hours.
For example, if you earn $30 per hour and work 38 hours:
$30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280 per year.
If you're paid fortnightly, multiply your weekly pay by 2. A weekly pay of $1,140 becomes $2,280 per fortnight.
National Minimum Wage and Award Rates
From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 for a 38-hour week, according to the Fair Work Commission. This is the minimum for award/agreement-free adult employees. Most workers are covered by an award or enterprise agreement with higher rates. You can check your specific award using pay guides from the Fair Work Ombudsman.
Casual Loading: 25% on Top
Casual employees receive a 25% loading instead of paid leave entitlements. This loading is added to the base hourly rate. So the casual National Minimum Wage is $26.44 × 1.25 = $33.05 per hour.
When converting to annual, use the loaded rate. For a casual earning $33.05 per hour for 38 hours:
$33.05 × 38 × 52 = $65,318.80 per year.
Our the timesheet has a checkbox to add casual loading automatically. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading – the tool adds it for you.
Superannuation: Paid on Top
Super guarantee contributions are 12% of your ordinary time earnings, paid by your employer on top of your gross pay. The maximum contribution base for 2026–27 is $270,830. If your annual salary is below that, super is calculated on your full earnings.
For the $30/hour example above:
Annual gross: $59,280 Super (12%): $7,113.60 Total employer cost: $66,393.60
Super does not reduce your take-home pay; it's an additional benefit. See our super and packaging page for more.
Tax and Medicare Levy
Your annual gross is not what you take home. The Australian Taxation Office applies progressive tax rates. For 2026–27:
- $0 – $18,200: nil
- $18,201 – $45,000: 15% on excess over $18,200
- $45,001 – $135,000: 30% on excess over $45,000
- $135,001 – $190,000: 37% on excess over $135,000
- $190,001+: 45% on excess over $190,000
Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (single reduction thresholds based on 2025–26 as 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed).
Use our take-home pay calculator for an estimate after tax and Medicare.
Comparing with Average Earnings
The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult ordinary time at $2,083.70 per week (May 2026). That's about $108,352 per year. All employees total earnings (including part-time) average $1,579.20 per week, or $82,118.40 annually.
The Mbappe Salary in Context
When people search for "mbappe salary", they're often looking at the reported earnings of football star Kylian Mbappé, which can exceed $100 million annually. Converting that to an hourly rate (assuming a 38-hour week, 52 weeks) gives an astronomical figure – over $50,000 per hour. But for most workers, understanding your own hourly rate and how casual loading and super affect your annual pay is far more practical.
Important Notes
- This conversion assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice.
- Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base.
- Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with full tax-free threshold. HELP, Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted.
- This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
