Minimum Wage Australia Yearly: From Hourly to Annual with Casual Loading and Super

At the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour for a 38-hour week, the annual gross pay is approximately $52,281 before tax and super, with casual loading adding 25% on top.

Understanding the Minimum Wage Australia Yearly

When you hear about the minimum wage australia yearly, it’s the annual equivalent of the hourly rate set by the Fair Work Commission. As of 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour. For a full-time worker on a 38-hour week, the simple conversion is:

Hourly rate × hours per week × 52 = annual gross pay

$26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,281.44 per year.

This formula assumes you work the same hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. It’s a starting point for comparing offers or estimating your income.

Why 38 Hours?

The Fair Work Act defines a standard full-time week as 38 hours. Many awards and agreements use this as the base. If your hours differ, adjust the calculation accordingly. For part-time or casual work, the same formula applies – just use your actual weekly hours.

Casual Loading: 25% on Top

Casual employees receive a 25% loading on their base hourly rate to compensate for not getting paid sick leave or annual leave. The casual minimum wage is therefore $33.05 per hour ($26.44 × 1.25).

Annual for a casual: $33.05 × 38 × 52 = $65,351.80.

Our timesheet lets you toggle casual loading with a checkbox. Always enter your base hourly rate first – the calculator adds the 25% on top. Never type a rate that already includes loading.

Fortnightly Pay

Many employers pay fortnightly. To find your gross fortnightly pay:

  • Weekly pay × 2
  • Or hourly rate × hours per week × 2

At the minimum wage: $1,004.90 per week → $2,009.80 per fortnight. With casual loading: $1,256.13 per week → $2,512.26 per fortnight.

Award Rates vs National Minimum Wage

The National Minimum Wage is the floor. Most industries have award rates that are higher. For example, the Hospitality Award or the General Retail Award set specific rates for classifications. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award. If you’re covered by an award, your minimum pay is that award rate, not the national minimum.

Our pay guides and reference tables can help you find the right rate for your job. Remember, these are industry or state averages – not a median for your specific role.

Superannuation: Paid on Top

Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your gross pay. It does not come out of your hourly rate. For the minimum wage yearly:

  • Gross annual: $52,281.44
  • Super (12%): $6,273.77
  • Total cost to employer: $58,555.21

Super stops at the maximum contribution base of $270,830. For most workers, that limit doesn’t apply. You can learn more about super and packaging.

Tax on Your Annual Pay

Your take-home pay depends on tax. For 2026–27, the resident tax rates are:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15¢ for each $1 over $18,200
  • $45,001 – $135,000: $4,020 plus 30¢ for each $1 over $45,000
  • $135,001 – $190,000: $31,020 plus 37¢ for each $1 over $135,000
  • $190,001+: $51,420 plus 45¢ for each $1 over $190,000

Plus Medicare levy of 2% (reduction thresholds not confirmed for 2026–27, so we use 2025–26 single thresholds).

At the minimum wage yearly of $52,281, tax would be approximately $5,286 plus Medicare $1,046, leaving about $45,949 take-home. This is an estimate – your actual tax may vary with deductions, HELP repayments, or the Medicare levy surcharge.

Using the Calculator

Our timesheet is the home page. Enter your base hourly rate, select your hours per week (default 38), and check the casual loading box if applicable. The calculator shows your gross annual, fortnightly, and weekly pay, plus estimated tax and super. It follows the same formula: hourly × hours × 52.

Your actual pay may be higher or lower.

Disclaimer

Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

What is the minimum wage australia yearly for 2026–27?

The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour. For a standard 38-hour week, that works out to $1,004.90 per week and $52,281.44 per year before tax and super. If you receive the 25% casual loading, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour, which gives $1,256.13 per week and $65,351.80 per year. These figures assume no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances.

How does casual loading affect the annual calculation?

Casual loading is an extra 25% paid on top of the base hourly rate to compensate for not receiving paid leave. When converting to annual pay, you first multiply the base rate by hours per week by 52, then add the loading. For example, at the minimum wage, the base annual is $52,281; with loading it becomes $65,352. Our [timesheet](/) has a checkbox to add 25% casual loading on top of the base rate you enter – never type a rate that already includes loading.

Is super included in the annual pay or paid on top?

Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings. The super guarantee is 12% of your gross pay, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. So if your annual gross is $52,281, your employer must contribute an extra $6,274 in super. This is not part of your take-home pay and is not included in the annual figure you see on our calculator – it is an additional benefit.
