Salary Sacrifice Calculator Car: How Casual Loading and Super Affect Your Hourly to Annual Pay

Based on a 38-hour week, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate times 38 times 52, with super paid on top at 12%.

How to Convert Hourly to Annual Pay

To convert an hourly rate to an annual salary, multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. This article assumes a standard full-time week of 38 hours unless stated otherwise. For example, $30 per hour × 38 hours × 52 weeks = $59,280 gross per year. You can also find your fortnightly pay by multiplying your weekly pay by 2. Use the timesheet to enter your base hourly rate and see the annual, fortnightly, and weekly figures instantly.

The Formula and Assumptions

The formula is simple: annual gross ≈ hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes you work the same number of hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. If you work different hours each week, this estimate will not be accurate. For part-time or irregular hours, you would need to average your hours over a longer period.

Casual Loading and Super Paid on Top

Casual employees are entitled to a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate. This loading compensates for the lack of paid leave entitlements such as annual leave and sick leave. The loading is added to the base rate before any other calculations. For example, the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour for permanent employees. With casual loading, the rate becomes $33.05 per hour. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading into the timesheet – instead, use the checkbox on the timesheet to add the 25% loading automatically.

Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings at 12% (the super guarantee rate for 2026–27). Ordinary earnings include your base rate plus any casual loading, but exclude overtime. The super is calculated on your gross pay up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. For example, if your annual ordinary earnings are $59,280, your employer must contribute $7,113.60 in super (12% of $59,280). This super is not deducted from your pay; it is an additional contribution to your super fund.

Using the Salary Sacrifice Calculator Car for Car Packaging

If you are considering a salary sacrifice arrangement for a car, our salary sacrifice calculator car tool can help you estimate the impact on your take-home pay. However, remember that the annual pay shown here does not include any salary packaging deductions. Salary sacrifice reduces your taxable income, which can lower your tax but also affects your super guarantee and other entitlements. The figures on this page are a starting point; you would need to adjust your taxable income separately when using a salary sacrifice calculator car.

Average Earnings and Minimum Wage

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reports Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult ordinary time as $2,083.70 per week (May 2026). This is an average across all industries and occupations, not a median for a specific job. For all employees (including part-time), total earnings average $1,579.20 per week. These figures are useful for benchmarking but do not represent the pay for any particular role. The Fair Work Commission sets the National Minimum Wage, which from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour ($1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). Award rates may be higher and vary by industry. Check the relevant pay guides or reference tables for your award.

Tax and Medicare

Resident tax rates for 2026–27 apply: nil on the first $18,200, then 15% on income up to $45,000, 30% up to $135,000, 37% up to $190,000, and 45% above that. The Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income, with reductions for low-income earners (using the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds as the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed). The tax and Medicare estimates on this page do not include the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP repayments, or any salary packaging. For a more detailed estimate, see take-home pay and super and packaging.

Important Disclaimer

Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

How do I calculate my annual salary from an hourly rate?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week (usually 38 for full-time) and then by 52 weeks. For example, $30/hour × 38 × 52 = $59,280 gross per year. This assumes the same rate every week with no unpaid overtime or penalty rates.

Does the casual loading of 25% apply on top of the base rate?

Yes, casual loading is an additional 25% on the base hourly rate. For the National Minimum Wage, the base is $26.44, so the casual rate is $33.05. Super is then calculated on the ordinary earnings including the loading. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading into the timesheet; use the checkbox to add it.

How does a salary sacrifice calculator car help with my pay?

A salary sacrifice calculator car helps you estimate the effect of packaging a car through your employer, reducing your taxable income. However, the annual pay shown here does not include any salary sacrifice deductions; you would need to adjust your taxable income separately. The figures here are estimates only.
