Hourly to Annual Salary: Use Our Super Calculator Salary Tool for 2026–27

Assuming a 38‑hour week and 52 weeks per year, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 1,976 hours.

How to convert your hourly rate to annual, fortnightly and weekly pay

Whether you’re negotiating a salary or checking a job offer, knowing what your hourly rate means in annual, fortnightly and weekly terms is essential. Our super calculator salary tool does the maths for you, using the standard Australian full‑time hours of 38 per week and 52 weeks per year.

The basic formula

Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52.

For a standard full‑time employee working 38 hours each week, that’s:

Annual = hourly × 38 × 52

For example, if your hourly rate is $45.00:

  • Annual: $45.00 × 38 × 52 = $88,920
  • Weekly: $45.00 × 38 = $1,710
  • Fortnightly: $1,710 × 2 = $3,420

These figures are gross – before tax and any deductions. The calculator also shows an indicative tax estimate using the 2026–27 ATO resident rates and Medicare levy, plus the employer’s super guarantee contribution paid on top.

Understanding the 38‑hour week and 52‑week year

The Fair Work Act 2009 defines 38 hours as the standard full‑time week. Most full‑time employees also receive four weeks of annual leave, meaning they work about 48 weeks per year. However, the conversion here uses 52 weeks because your hourly rate is paid for every week you work, including when you’re on paid leave. This matches the approach used by the hourly conversion tool on this site.

National Minimum Wage, award rates and casual loading

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Casual employees get a 25% loading, making the minimum casual rate $33.05 per hour. Many awards and enterprise agreements set higher rates. Always check the relevant award or agreement – you can find links to pay guides on our pay guides page.

If you’re a casual, use the “Add casual loading” checkbox on the calculator. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading – the tool applies the 25% on top of the base rate you type.

Super guarantee – paid on top of your gross pay

Under the super guarantee, employers must contribute 12% of your ordinary earnings into a super fund. This is paid on top of your salary, not taken out of it. The contribution is capped at the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year (2026–27).

From 1 July 2026, employers must pay super each payday (Payday Super rules). The contribution must reach your fund within seven business days. If an employer is late, they may have to pay the super guarantee charge. For more detail, see the Fair Work Ombudsman’s page on tax and superannuation.

Our super calculator salary estimate shows the employer contribution based on your gross annual pay, up to the cap. This is not deducted from your take‑home pay – it’s an extra benefit.

Tax and Medicare levy – what the estimate includes

The indicative tax uses the 2026–27 resident tax brackets:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on income over $190,000

Plus the 2% Medicare levy. The estimate assumes you claim the full tax‑free threshold and are an Australian resident for tax purposes. It does not include HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, or salary sacrifice arrangements. For a more detailed withholding calculation, the ATO provides a tax withheld calculator for employers.

Fortnightly pay – why it matters

Many Australian employers pay fortnightly. The calculator shows your fortnightly gross (weekly × 2) and the corresponding tax withheld. This helps you budget and compare with job advertisements that quote a fortnightly salary.

Average earnings for context

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reports Average Weekly Earnings. For May 2026, full‑time adult ordinary time earnings were $2,083.70 per week. All employees (including part‑time) averaged $1,579.20 per week. These figures can help you see where your rate sits relative to the market. Our average pay page has more detail.

Important disclaimer

Annual pay shown here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax‑free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

For a full breakdown of your situation, including award‑specific rates and salary packaging options, see our super and packaging page. You can also check the minimum wage page for current rates and the take-home pay page for net pay estimates.

Questions people ask next

How does the super calculator salary handle the super guarantee?

The super guarantee rate is 12% of ordinary earnings for 2026–27 and is paid on top of your gross pay. The calculator estimates the employer contribution up to the $270,830 maximum contribution base. For full details, see the Fair Work Ombudsman’s guidance on super guarantee.

What is casual loading and how does it affect my hourly rate?

Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate instead of paid leave. The calculator has a checkbox to add casual loading – never enter a rate that already includes it. The National Minimum Wage for casuals from 1 July 2026 is $33.05/hour (base $26.44 + 25%).

Does the tax estimate include Medicare and the tax‑free threshold?

Yes. The estimate uses the 2026–27 resident tax scale (nil up to $18,200, then 15%, 30%, 37%, 45%) and the 2% Medicare levy. It assumes you claim the full tax‑free threshold. HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge and salary sacrifice are not deducted. For precise withholding, use the ATO’s tax withheld calculator.
