Firefighter Salary WA: Converting Hourly to Annual Pay with Tax and Super
For a 38-hour week, annual gross pay is the hourly rate multiplied by 38 then by 52; super is paid on top at 12%.
Understanding Your Hourly Rate and Annual Pay
If you earn an hourly wage, converting it to an annual salary helps you compare job offers or plan your budget. The standard formula is:
Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52
We assume a 38‑hour week, which is the full‑time ordinary hours under the Fair Work Act. If you work different hours, adjust the calculation accordingly. For example, a 40‑hour week would use 40 instead of 38.
Knowing your annual figure also lets you work out your fortnightly pay (weekly pay × 2) and your weekly pay (hourly × hours per week).
National Minimum Wage and Award Rates
The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Casual employees receive a 25% loading, making the casual minimum $33.05 per hour. However, many occupations are covered by awards or enterprise agreements that set higher minimum rates. Always check the relevant award or agreement for your role.
If you are a casual worker, use the checkbox on the timesheet to add 25% casual loading on top of your base hourly rate. Do not type a rate that already includes casual loading.
Tax and Medicare on Your Annual Figure
Once you have your gross annual pay, you can estimate the tax and Medicare levy you will owe as a resident for 2026–27. The Australian Taxation Office uses these tax brackets:
- $0 – $18,200: nil
- $18,201 – $45,000: 15% of the excess over $18,200
- $45,001 – $135,000: $4,020 plus 30% of the excess over $45,000
- $135,001 – $190,000: $31,020 plus 37% of the excess over $135,000
- $190,001 and above: $51,370 plus 45% of the excess over $190,000
In addition, the Medicare levy is generally 2% of your taxable income. The 2025–26 single reduction thresholds are used here because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this estimate. The levy may be reduced for low‑income earners.
These deductions are subtracted from your gross annual pay to give an estimate of your take‑home pay. For a more detailed breakdown, see our take‑home pay page.
Superannuation: Paid on Top
Superannuation guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your gross pay. It is not deducted from your hourly rate or annual salary. The super contribution is capped at the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year (2026–27). If your ordinary earnings exceed that amount, super is only paid on the first $270,830.
For example, if your annual gross pay is $80,000, your employer would contribute $9,600 (12%) to your super fund. This amount is in addition to your salary, not part of it. Learn more about super and packaging.

Using the Timesheet for Your Own Calculation
The timesheet on this site lets you enter your base hourly rate and, if applicable, check the casual loading box. It will then calculate your annual, fortnightly, weekly, and monthly gross pay, plus estimated tax, Medicare levy, and super. You can also view reference tables for common rates and thresholds.
This tool is an estimate only. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax‑free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds. HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. Always consult a qualified professional for personal financial advice.
Open the same rate on the home timesheet. Read the reference tables before treating a figure as your pay.
