Minimum Wage Casual: How to Calculate Your Annual Pay with Casual Loading and Super
For a minimum wage casual employee working 38 hours per week, the annual gross pay including 25% casual loading is approximately $65,286, with super paid on top.
Understanding Your Minimum Wage Casual Pay
If you're earning the minimum wage casual rate, it's important to know how your hourly pay translates into annual earnings, especially with the 25% casual loading and super guarantee paid on top. This guide walks you through the calculations using the latest figures from the Fair Work Commission and the Australian Taxation Office.
The National Minimum Wage and Casual Loading
From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage set by the Fair Work Commission is $26.44 per hour for permanent employees. Casual employees receive a 25% loading to compensate for the lack of paid leave and other entitlements. This brings the minimum casual rate to $33.05 per hour. Always check your award or registered agreement, as some industries have higher minimum rates.
When using our the timesheet, you enter your base hourly rate (without casual loading). Then tick the checkbox to add 25% casual loading automatically. Never type a rate that already includes the loading – the tool handles that for you.
Converting Hourly to Annual: The Formula
The standard formula for annual gross pay is:
Hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks
We assume a 38-hour week, which is the full-time ordinary hours under the Fair Work Act. For a minimum wage casual:
$33.05 × 38 × 52 = $65,286.80 per year
This figure assumes you work the same hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances. It's a baseline estimate. If you work fewer or more hours, adjust the weekly hours accordingly.
Fortnightly Pay and Budgeting
Many casual employees are paid fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross pay, simply double your weekly pay. For a minimum wage casual working 38 hours:
Weekly pay: $33.05 × 38 = $1,255.90 Fortnightly pay: $1,255.90 × 2 = $2,511.80
This can help you budget and compare with salary offers that are quoted per annum.
Tax on Your Minimum Wage Casual Earnings
The Australian Taxation Office applies a progressive tax scale for 2026–27:
- Nil tax on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (based on 2025–26 single reduction thresholds, as 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at time of writing).
For a minimum wage casual earning $65,286:
- Tax on first $18,200: $0
- Tax on next $26,800 (to $45,000): $4,020
- Tax on remaining $20,286 (to $65,286): $6,085.80
- Total tax: $10,105.80
- Medicare levy: $1,305.72 (2% of $65,286)
- Estimated take-home pay: $53,874.48

Super Guarantee: Paid on Top
Your employer must pay super guarantee of 12% on your ordinary earnings, which includes the casual loading. Super is paid on top of your gross pay, not deducted from it. For a minimum wage casual earning $65,286:
12% × $65,286 = $7,834.32 in super contributions per year
The super guarantee applies up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per quarter. Since $65,286 is well below that, the full 12% applies.
Award Rates vs National Minimum Wage
While the National Minimum Wage is the legal floor, many casual employees are covered by an award that sets higher minimum rates. For example, the Hospitality Industry General Award or the Retail Award may have higher base rates plus casual loading. Always check your specific award on the Fair Work Ombudsman website or use our pay guides to find the correct rate for your job.
Remember: the figures here are averages or minimums. The Australian Bureau of Statistics' Average Weekly Earnings for May 2026 show full-time adult ordinary time earnings of $2,083.70 per week, which is much higher than the minimum. That's an average across all industries, not a median for your specific job. For your personal situation, use the actual rate you are paid.

Important Disclaimer
This article provides estimates only. Annual pay is calculated as hourly rate × hours per week × 52, assuming the same rate every week with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. Always consult a qualified professional for your specific circumstances.
