Net Salary Calculator Australia: Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay

Based on a 38-hour week, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 1,976 hours (38 × 52).

How to Use the Net Salary Calculator Australia

Our net salary calculator Australia helps you quickly turn an hourly wage into annual, fortnightly, and after-tax figures. Start by typing your base hourly rate – for example, $30.00. If you work casual hours, tick the checkbox to add 25% casual loading on top. The calculator assumes a standard 38-hour week unless you change the hours. It then multiplies your hourly rate by hours per week and by 52 weeks to get your gross annual pay.

The Basic Formula

Annual gross = hourly rate × hours per week × 52

For a full-time employee on 38 hours: annual gross = hourly rate × 38 × 52 = hourly rate × 1,976.

This formula assumes you work the same number of hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. It is a starting point for comparing offers or understanding your potential earnings.

National Minimum Wage and Award Rates

The Fair Work Commission sets the National Minimum Wage. From 1 July 2026, the minimum is $26.44 per hour for permanent employees, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Casual employees receive $33.05 per hour, which includes the 25% casual loading. Many industries have award rates that are higher than the minimum. Use our pay guides to check the correct rate for your job. If you see an industry or state average, remember that it is an average, not the median for your specific role.

Casual Loading Explained

Casual loading is an extra 25% paid on top of the base hourly rate. It compensates casual employees for not receiving paid sick leave, annual leave, or public holidays. When using the calculator, always enter your base rate (the rate before loading) and tick the casual loading checkbox. Do not enter a rate that already includes the loading. For example, if your base rate is $26.44, the casual rate becomes $33.05. Our casual loading page has more details.

Superannuation Paid on Top

Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. It does not come out of your pay. The maximum super contribution base for 2026–27 is $270,830. If your annual ordinary earnings exceed that, super is capped. Our calculator estimates super at 12% of ordinary earnings up to the cap. For a full-time worker on the minimum wage, annual ordinary earnings are about $26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,285.44, so super would be $6,274.25. See our super and packaging guide for more.

Fortnightly Pay

Many Australian employees are paid fortnightly. To get your gross fortnightly pay, multiply your weekly pay by 2. For a 38-hour week, weekly pay = hourly rate × 38. Fortnightly = weekly × 2. The calculator shows this automatically. After tax, your take-home pay each fortnight is what you actually receive.

Tax and Medicare

The calculator uses the 2026–27 resident tax rates:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15%
  • $45,001 – $135,000: 30%
  • $135,001 – $190,000: 37%
  • Over $190,000: 45%

Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income. The 2025–26 single reduction thresholds are used because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed for this estimate. The result is an estimate only – it does not include HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, or salary packaging. For a more precise figure, use the Australian Taxation Office's own tools. Our take-home pay page explains the deductions.

Example Calculation

Suppose you earn $35.00 per hour as a permanent full-time employee working 38 hours per week.

  • Annual gross: $35 × 38 × 52 = $69,160
  • Fortnightly gross: ($35 × 38) × 2 = $2,660
  • Estimated tax (2026–27): On $69,160, tax = $5,092 (first $18,200 nil, next $26,800 at 15% = $4,020, remaining $24,160 at 30% = $7,248, total $11,268? Wait recalc: $18,200 nil, then $26,800 at 15% = $4,020, then $69,160 - $45,000 = $24,160 at 30% = $7,248, total tax = $11,268. Medicare 2% = $1,383.20. Total deductions $12,651.20. Net annual ≈ $56,508.80. Fortnightly net ≈ $2,173.42. This is an estimate.

Important Notes

The calculator provides an estimate. Actual pay may differ due to overtime, penalty rates, allowances, salary sacrifice, or changes in tax law. The National Minimum Wage and super guarantee rates are set by the Fair Work Commission and the Australian Government. For award-specific rates, check the Fair Work Ombudsman's website. For tax, refer to the Australian Taxation Office. Our reference tables contain more figures. Always consult a professional for personal advice.

When to Use This Calculator

Use the net salary calculator Australia when you have an hourly rate and want to see annual, fortnightly, or after-tax figures. It is also useful for comparing a salary offer to your current hourly wage. Remember that a salary often includes paid leave, while an hourly rate may not. Our hourly conversion page helps you convert in the other direction.

Disclaimer

Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

How do I calculate annual salary from an hourly rate?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For a standard full-time worker on 38 hours, the formula is: hourly rate × 38 × 52. This gives your gross annual pay before tax, super, and other deductions. If you work different hours, adjust the weekly hours accordingly. Our net salary calculator Australia does this automatically.

What is casual loading and how does it affect my pay?

Casual loading is an extra 25% paid on top of the base hourly rate to compensate for not receiving paid leave entitlements. The Fair Work Commission sets the National Minimum Wage for casuals at $33.05 per hour from 1 July 2026, which includes the 25% loading. When using our calculator, enter your base hourly rate and tick the casual loading checkbox to add 25% on top – do not enter a rate that already includes loading.

How is tax and Medicare calculated in the net salary calculator?

The calculator uses the 2026–27 Australian resident tax rates: nil on the first $18,200, 15% from $18,201 to $45,000, 30% from $45,001 to $135,000, 37% from $135,001 to $190,000, and 45% above $190,000. Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income. The 2025–26 single reduction thresholds are applied because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed. The result is an estimate only – it does not include HELP, Medicare levy surcharge, or salary packaging.
